Tom Trask was born in Mansfield, PA where he lived until he went to college at the University of Kentucky. After receiving a BS in electrical engineering from University of Kentucky, he joined the US Air Force and served for 11 years, including assignments in San Antonio, Dayton, Boston and the Pentagon. While in Dayton, he received an MS in Systems Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology.

After the Air Force, Tom started his tax and accounting practice in Herndon, VA. He obtained his Enrolled Agent certification to practice before the IRS soon thereafter and has held and relinquished the Certified Financial Planner designation as well as various securities licenses. Tom completed a second MS – this one in Finance from the College for Financial Planning.

Tax preparation and planning for both personal and small business clients constitute the bulk of the work for National Capital Corporation. Over the years, he has assisted with the formation of numerous corporations and partnerships as well as the liquidation of entities. He has also assisted with selling family businesses to the next generation, establishing custom-tailored pension plans, unwrapping defective stock purchases by pension plans, and recharacterizing a stock purchase as an asset purchase. After 40 years practicing accounting, Tom has experienced most of the ordinary tax issues and several of the more exotic and exciting situations.

While Tom has transitioned out of directly providing services to clients but will continue to provide advice, consultation, and mentoring to our employees.
